The Relationships Centre Leicestershire (formerly Relate Leicestershire) offers a Family Mediation Service

Are you and your ex-partner struggling to agree on child arrangements or shared finances?

Mediation is a process where a neutral third-party mediator helps separating/divorcing couples resolve disputes related to children, finances, and property outside of court. It aims to facilitate communication and help couples reach mutually agreeable solutions.

We are here to support you and can help you move forward with online or in-person support.

The role of your mediator

After separation, there are often challenging discussions and decisions to be made.

Your mediator can:

- Help you find solutions for child arrangements
- Explore financial options with you
- Manage conflict
- Provide legal information

What you can discuss:

Your mediator can talk through arrangements for children with you, plans for holidays/special occasions, division of assets, and other issues, such as debt, how to get a divorce and contact with grandparents.

What is the cost of Mediation?

Legal Aid

Family Mediation is free if you’re on a low income and are eligible for legal aid. You can check if you qualify by using the legal aid checker on gov.uk.  Legal Aid funded Mediation is not available at The Relationships Centre Leicestershire.

The Government Voucher Scheme 

- Up to £500 of free mediation for joint sessions  
- Available to anyone who wants to discuss children during mediation 
- Doesn’t cover cost of mediation information and assessment meeting (MIAM)

Private mediation fees

1. Mediation information and assessment meeting (MIAM)  
£100 per person – up to one hour  
(£35 non-refundable deposit) 

2. Joint session
£150 per person – up to one and a half hours  
(£50 non-refundable deposit) 

3. Child-inclusive mediation session 
£100 per parent or guardian – up to one hour 

4. Memorandum of understanding
£135 per person 

5. Open financial summary
£135 per person
